Yes, expansion content is substantially higher quality than core. There is also a lot more of it these days. If you enjoy the core game, buy the expansions. By all means get the expansions. I wouldnt focus on any type of content yet. Try everything and see what you enjoy the most.

Strike missions: decent group content, though not as good as raids, the mechanics are very similar to fractals (ton of aoe circles everywhere and plenty of movement).
